The new version includes the following fixes/features

 • I fixed some of the crashing issues
 • There was a bug where when navigating to a folder it would scroll down the list instead of going to the first item.
 • By popular demand, you can now use the remote numbers to quickly jump through long lists
 • You can also use the keyboard (note space and backspace are not supported yet for fast searching, its a major hack to fix this)
 • Details view for movies
 • DVD detection was a bit broken, it should now support nested folders with DVDs
 • Holding the down button used to cause navigation to get “stuck” , this is now mostly resolved.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the new version, I will give it a go later today.

Any chance of getting a simple tick box next to each item in the list of videos to show what has and hasn't been watched?

Cheers,

Hi Gary,

Yes, there is a chance :)

I am thinking of the best way to implement this feature, I do not want to clutter the UI up. Here is a list of some of my problems with this feature

How do I deal with the initial setup phase (you have 500 videos you have already watched, do you tick 500 checkboxes?)

How do I deal with a multi-user household? I watched a video but my wife has not

What defines a video being watched? Played or watched 20% or watched 100% or user defined with a checkbox

Hopefully I can figure out a reasonable answer to all of these questions, maybe I should post the question to TGB

Cheers

I just installed this in Vista Home premium and added a short cut to my videos. All my videos are AVI files and so it shows a generic logo on the left side. Is there a way for me to add specific pictures or JPG to each avi movie under video browser.

Thanks.

Is there any specific configuration for this? I select Video Browser and nothing shows up. I don't know how to trouble shoot this…

I tried to update the FAQ section in the download area with some answers, I still need to clean stuff up a bit on the blog cause that area looks a bit messy …

Sam, I'm new to your forum and had a quick question. Will/Does the plug-in you are developing include the ability to sort one's dvd collection by genre? This would be an incredibly helpful feature and would allow those of us with very large dvd collections to quickly access the type of dvd we would like to watch. Thanks so much for all of your hard work and generosity in sharing the fruits of your labor…it is sincerely appreciated.

BTW, foregive me if you have already answered this question in a prior post

Blake,

I'll try to hack in support for sorting by genre.

Sam, thanks. This, in my humble opinion, would be a worthwhile endeavor. I know that MS provides this functionality for sorting recorded movies, so hopefully hacking into this functionality won't require too much work. By incorporating this functionality, VMC will be on par with the likes of Kaleidescape and Escient Vision for ease of DVD management and playback.

This App is great!!

Is it possible to show the meta image instead of the folder images? I only have one tvshow per subfolder.

Also I find that the sorting options don't work because of this fact. I get all of the options when you first launch the app, but not when I go into my tv shortcut.

I have the following layout of folders:

Shortcut to TV\Heroes – 2×11 Powerless\heroes.s02e11.avi

Shortcut to TV\Lost – 4×02 Confirmed Dead\lost.s04e02.avi

Hi John,

Have you considered re-organizing your videos?

I designed Video Browser to work best with a structure like the following

Tv\Heroes\Season 2\11-Powerless.avi

If you organize your tv shows in this way you should be able to run the Ruby scraper to add nicer metadata like show descriptions and the like which does look pretty impressive

Hi,

I like your plugin. However, it would be greater if you could allow the browser to display other video files type such as rmvb and mov instead of just the standard mpeg, avi and wmv.

Thanks.

Hi,

For the Ruby script is it possible to specify DVD or Aired order?

Brilliant program btw.
